  1. Thanks everyone for the good wishes.

Unfortunately I don't know how I did it. I have a blurred (thanks to
Belgian beer, that'll teach me) memory of riding home from Sandringham,
I remember getting in through the door and don't recall any problems
there. Between getting through the door and waking up on the couch
after watching some telly I'd recorded I somehow did the deed 'cause
getting up off the couch was really painful.

I don't know all the medical terms but basically I rammed my shin bone
up in to my femur, displacing the meniscus. I've had a bone graft from
my hip to build up the depression in the femur and have had a l shaped
plate bolted on to the shin bone.

Another 11 weeks on crutches looms before me but you know, I don't find
it that daunting. Maybe that's because I don't know what I'm in for
never having had significant trauma before.

The main thing I've been feeling over the last 7 days is gratitude.

Gratitude towards my in-laws who dropped everything at a moment's notice
to help me out over the weekend.

Gratitude that medicine has advanced to a stage where there's a very
good chance that I will have full use of my knee restored.

Gratitude towards my employer. I couldn't have taken myself off the
work force at a worse time but they're right behind me for a full
recovery and finding me plenty of work to keep me busy at a desk.

Gratitude towards my friends who've really stepped up to the plate and
give me the help I need.

Gratitude for a lot of other things that I've forgotten or haven't even
    noticed.

And gratitude to my lovely wife who's there for me whether she's in
    Brisbane or by my side.

Hurry up and get well, you crazy drunken bum!

Having dicky knees myself, I have to say you're fortunate. There's
    nothing worse than not being able to rely upon that particular joint;
you don't realise just how crucial it is (pun not intended) until it
    starts screaming at you.

I'm pleased to hear that a full recovery is on the cards; it's excellent
    news. Get better soon, eh?

You'll probably find it takes a while to get back into the swing of
things Euan and your confidence will be shot, but just start of slowly.
Few basic exercises and maybe a glass of light next friday. Work you way
back and you'll be downing slabs again before you know it. (Maybe a
little gingerly at first 😉 )

(Good to see you made it home)

I don't have much choice with the drugs I'm on. Lightweight city is
    where I'm headed.

Shame my body will probably be headed in the opposite direction. I'm
going to have to really work to get back in to shape, once the body's
    healed that is.
