  1. Hello!

I have a question about vitamin B12. Is it effective to use oral supplementation? IMO it is, but some medical sources (and doctors) say that it is totally inefective and injection is the only way. Dr Melvin Williams does mention in his book, "The Edge Of Ergogenics" that oral supplementation may be effective in vegans and sportsmen with limited daily calorie intake.

This is related with my friend's problem, described in thread "What can veggie diet cause"

    Any help'll be very apreciated.

    Cheers

Not so, and I say this from experience with multiple forms of B12. Some however are definitely better than others.

Injectable is the most efficient means of delivery. Oral preparations vary with efficiency, and naturally are dependent upon the presence of intrinsic factor for absorption. In my experience with orals, the liquid preparations tend to be generally better than pills, etc. You will know when you have an effective product, because you will feel a definite, noticeable elevation in energy level and mood within about an hour after taking it.

In any case, you nee to take at least 2500mcg, and preferrably 5000mcg to insure a decent dose.

  3. I have a similar problem, and agree with the above response.

I now have a monthly injection and a daily oral (1mg) supliment before exercise.

Some days are better than others, but I have had to reduce the training heart rate (130 max now) so as not to run out of energy.

    Good luck with the treatment,

    cheers
    George
