  1. Hi,

Are there any ways to minimize extra skin after losing a lot
of weight? Especially in my belly.

I'm 57, male, 5'8", weighed 242 two months ago and hope to
get to 155. I'm at 218 now. (Losing about 10 pounds a month.
Eating much less, plan to exercise much more and eat that
much more when I get to about 205 or 210. No special diet.)

    Thanks.

    Mike

Healthy skin has some elasticity, within limits. You may
have some skin recovery, but a 57 year-old losing 87 pounds
will inevitably have a fair amount of sagging skin. That
amount will vary with a number of factors such as rapidity
of weight loss (10 lbs per month is OK), protein intake
during the weight loss (it's not useful to take in too much
protein, though), whether you smoke or not (smoking is bad),
genetics, and the degree of skin damage (skin that has
stretched to the point of stretch marks will never recover).

Adequate vitamin intake is important too. Depending on your
diet, you may want to take a simple multivitamin. Note that
there are a huge number of useless nostrums out there
relevant to your skin question. Creams, oils, expensive
special diet supplements and vitamins, excercises and
special excercise equipment are as far away as the next
infomercial you watch - all designed to bilk the unwary,
    preying on their ignorance.
