  1. Hi all,

I'd like to buy a new bike but I don't really know where to start. I anticipate riding mainly in the city, but occasionally on paths, trails and gravel roads. After eliminating a large number of possibilities (including flat bar road bikes), I'm leaning towards the women's Avanti Discovery ($450) or the Sub Trax ($400). Are these reasonable bikes or should I consider something else? Is either bike superior in terms of components? Any advice or comments you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Bri

P.S. Here are the links to the manufacturer's sites:

  2. My GF bought a new MTB last week, she looked at all those and the Apollo Marathon and Malvern Star Mirage too.

I see the Discovery is a 700c wheel bike, if you are tall (5'7"+) it would go OK. The Axis and Spirit have 26" wheels and better suit lady riders.

As she is 4'10", they were all a little too long across the top tube, she bought an Apollo Panther http://www.apollobikes.com/apolloproducts/id/37/cid/8/parent/0/t/apolloproducts/title/PANTHER, I know its a boys but it fits perfect. 😄 She added a suspension seat post, 11-28 cartridge, semi slick tyres, now she "goes like a ZYRTEC!"
