Autographs on Auction to Save the Velodrome; More than $100,000 Raised by Cycling Community

(Northbrook, Ill., Oct. 16) - Autographed memorabilia from some of cycling's greatest names will be
on auction starting Friday, October 17, as part of the effort to save the Ed Rudolph Northbrook
Velodrome in Northbrook, Illinois. Hosted by cycling web site Peteslist.com, this "silent" auction
hopes to add to the more than $100,000 already contributed by the cycling community.
An incredible mix of international and domestic star signatures has been assembled. Highlighting the
items on offer is a signed copy of Lance Armstrong's new book, Every Second Counts. Armstrong is
currently crossing the country with his Tour of Hope supporting cancer research, and his signature
was collected at one of only three signings scheduled for the book.
A signed copy of Graeme Obree's Flying Scotsman: The Graeme Obree Story is also up for auction. This
story of the former World Hour Record holder is not yet available in the United States, and details
the amazing journey of the cyclist who "took on the world and rewrote the record books."
Another cyclist who has rewritten records is Marty Nothstein, Olympic Gold Medalist and three-time
World Champion. A member of the Navigators Professional Cycling Team, Nothstein raced at the
Velodrome in August and provided an autographed jersey for the auction. He was joined by his
teammate, 2002 Russian National Champion Oleg Grichkine, who signed a Russian National Champion
jersey that is also on auction.
The auction has a local connection as well, as Atlanta Olympian and World Championship medalist Bill
Clay has donated a signed jersey from the 1996 Games. Clay competed at the national and
international level for more than a decade, and currently coaches several riders based at the
Velodrome.
Bidding will start at $100 for each book, and $200 for each jersey. Any amount collected in the
auction will be eligible for 2:1 gift matching from the "Velodrome Angel," an anonymous donor who
has already given more than $25,000 and has pledged to match all contributions two-for-one through
the end of the year. The auction will run through Friday, October 31, with bidding by e-mail only to
