"stateline" on the abc had a feature on beach rd tonight (in relation to confrontations with cars etc).
they showed footage of a group being overtaken by some nutbag in a 4wd going over the solid centre line towards the blind crest of a hill. 🙁
the show floated the idea of closing the road to vehicular traffic during certain hours to make it safer for bikes. this was backed by some geezer from 'bicycling victoria' also suggesting albert park.
Saw the stateline ABC (repeated Sat noon) and the video has already been taken and bad behaviour recorded. The local law responsible for the Bay road had suggestions good and sad. Good, to restrict vehicles from parking on the road from 6am to 10 am on Sundays so that cyclists could remain within one lane. Sad, that any illegal behaviour could result in loss of points from driving liciences, seems harsh to me that bit  . Still see it as a positive that cycling is getting some media attention.

merci - moniker..... todays ride was a training ride, and from what feedback is to hand, channel 7 got little to crow about...unless the did a bit of fabricating for their wevening newsless...guess we'll have to wait and see ( if you watch 7's newsless programming)
rumblings that police have been making subtle enquiry of Beach Road bike businesses and the bike industry about limited closing of Beach Road sections to motorised traffic at selected hours of peak bike useage....looks like they are getting some research in to moderate/support policy development with VicRoads and Councils...never know ....M2006 Cmwlth Games road closures for Time Trials might be a good stepping off point for any activity after that, 'cos it will certainly get more people riding more often on BR's and Beach Road...woohoo
