Landslides from heavy rains in the Fall have taken out sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway east of Mt. Mitchell. A new route has had to be devised. It splits west just before the climb of Bill's Mountain and then approaches Mt. Mitchell State Park from the west (Asheville) side. This increases the ride distance to 110 miles! (The route to Marion is apparently unchanged, so Marion riders and Mt. Mitchell riders will part company just before Bill's Mountain.)
Because of the heavier traffic load on The Parkway west of Mt. Mitchell, authorities will not allow the event on the weekend. Therefore, the date of the ride has been moved to FRIDAY, MAY 20th!

I checked my Topo software and it looks to me like the new route adds about 2,130 feet to the cum. elevation gain for the ride.
