The man who closed the net on drug cheats at the Olympics warns that
even tougher action to clean up sport is still to come
It is a Tuesday afternoon in Montreal, almost a month since the
Olympic Games in Athens, and [censored] Pound sits easily in an armchair at
the offices of the World Anti- Doping Agency (Wada) on the 17th floor
of the Stock Exchange building in Place Victoria. Pound is chairman of
Wada, and in the pursuit of highest, furthest, strongest at the Games
of the 28th Olympiad, it was his team that returned from the battle
with the most notable record: 25 positive drug tests. Among those
caught in the anti-doping net were three gold medallists and a fourth,
US cyclist Tyler Hamilton, who gets to keep his medal but loses
everything else.
