No issue at all unless you have taken up the timing option. In fact, you'll be better off as you won't get stuck at the start.

They have free stuff at the end, so swing by to get some after your ride.

You can start wherever you want. Though didn't some people
pay extra for official timing? These dudes would have to start
from the official start place. After 150 kays you're gonna realise
that you should've started at Sorrento anyway ;-)

beach road is [censored] boring at the best of times, and if there's one place
more boring than beach road, it's the geelong freeway between geelong and
melb.

Excellent advice. And one advantage of joining the official start is you
can chat to others there beforehand, and often find a good group to join
up with.

I must say I didn't find the official start too bad at all last year.
Perhaps it's because all the Euro-wannabes seem to skip it.
