Unmoderated newsgroups are a mess everywhere. They are only composed of
jackasses braying in the wind. Anyone who pays any attention to these
jackasses is himself a jackass. I have never seen a newsgroup that was not
composed of 100% jackasses. Even if you enter these unmoderated groups not a
jackass, you will soon become one despite yourself. This has been proven
over and over again.
So ... are moderated newsgroups the answer? Actually, yes, they are to a
limited extent! But is anyone interested in a moderated group that concerns
itself with just a single subject, such as cycling for instance. Again yes,
certain types are interested. So moderated newsgroups are for them and for
them only. Only dullards need apply.
However, if you have a spark of intelligence about you, forget about
moderated newsgroups. There are other better ways to get information than
consorting with a lot of know nothings who will continue to be jackasses
despite having an editor (moderator) overseeing them.
The bottom line is that jackasses just love other jackasses, moderator or
no. So determine for yourself if you are a jackass or not, and if you are,
then go for it. You will feel right at home there in the corral braying with
all the other jackasses.
