hi there. today I bought a Fuji Nevada--a low-end mtb. since i planned to use it for very short urban riding predominantly, i thought it would be fitting to get semi-slicks tires. the pair that came stock were decent WTB Velociraptor 1.9/2.1. the LBS swapped in some Hutchinson Acrobat 1.3" which, I now think, are of slightly lower value.
The 1.3" look really thin now, and I dont know if its the standard width for semi-slicks or if theyre more popular in wider sizes. Obviously they will be quieter and have less resistance at a cost of any off-road grip... but will durability be affected? IE would my rims be more prone to bending if I hit some stairs/curbs or the open with roots?
Do you think its best if I were to switch back to the stock tires, or maybe get another pair of mtb tires with less aggressive treads, or semi-slicks that are wider (if they come in such)
the thread by Mike Beauchamp on 8-27 affirmed that 1.3" isnt ridiculous on a MTB, but im looking to see if there are still good suggestions 🙂

Any time you go from a fat to skinny tire, your rims are more prone to bending unless you pump up the skinny tires to higher tire pressures. There is also the increased possibility of a pinch flat.
