  1. Planning our Northumberland and Scottish Borders trip, we want to go
North out of Hexham across the A69 towards Acomb. I would prefer to
avoid riding on the A69 if possible.

There is a bridge across the A69 at NY 936 652, it is shown on the
1:50000 OS map as a white road, marked as a public bridleway.

Has anyone here used it? What is the surface like? We'll be on touring
    bikes with 700x25c road tyres.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The surface is fine although there is a steepish drop off down to the left
from the northern end of the bridge which on hardcore. This takes you on to
the old road which runs parallel to the A69 until it meets the A6079 to
Acomb. The old road usually has some standing water but it should not
    trouble you.

Much safer than crossing the A69!

Great stuff! Sounds like we should give that way a go.

    Many thanks.
