  1. Hello,
I'm about to buy my first road bike. I do use bikes regularly and train on my recumbent trike, hybrid (road/mtb) and at the gym. I'd like to do triathlons in the future (signed up for one already) but I'm looking for just a regular road bike; nothing tri specific. My budget is $1500 (canadian dollars) max.
So gar I have narrowed to these two so far and I'd like some opinions.

Salsa Campeon (5 years old) for around $1250 - 19.4 lb
    pinkbike.com1052507

    Or

Rocky Mountain Prestige 10 CR (new from 2010) on sale for $1399 (+ 5% taxes) - 22 lb
    thebikeshop.com10rocky mountain prestige 10 cr 66568 1.htm

I like the Campeon's colour scheme a lot more but really the Prestige seems like a better deal for a new bike, besides at the shop, they'll adjusted it for me. Any other thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Victor

  2. This is strickly a personal opinion of course but I would much rather buy the Salsa due to the far better component package, aluminium frame will be more durable in some circumstances, and the wheelset is better. If the mileage on the Salsa is low then that's the route I would go if it were me, plus it saves you $749! $749 you could save up towards a tri bike in the future, or get a nice set of IRD Cadence wheels custom built with Sapim spokes and still have money left over!!

Assuming the Salsa fits you it's a great buy with great components. I'd consider a better value and better buy than the Rocky Mountain. The fit, though, is the key. If' you've got a chance, you should test ride both bikes. It's a dicey proposition buying a first bike without test riding it to see if you get on with the fit of the bike and the quality of the ride.
