Check to make sure that the wheel was reinstalled straight in the frame. Did you lay the bike on the rear derailleur or did it fall onto the RD when the wheel was out? This could have bent/damaged the RD or RD hanger.

If that is all OK, try adjusting your RD cable tension a little bit.

i did take the wheel back out straight away and put it in again to see if that helped but it never,no the bike was turned upside down when repairing the tyre and defaintly never fell or no weight put on the derailleur,i have'nt tried adjusting the cable that much i gave it a very little turn but stopped incase it made matters worse ,i'll try playing around with that again then

been fiddling about with cable for last 30 min's and all gears changing up/down correctly again,so fingers crossed problem solved
