Im a twenty year old Irish student living in Dublin and i have recently decided to take part in a charity cycle around Ireland in aid of a couple of different charities and a close friend of mine who at the age of 19 has had a pacemaker implanted in his chest!!!. The cycle is 1100km and will take place over 10 consecutive days. I am relatively new to cycling and have recently purchased a giant defy 2 full spec. I am relatively fit as I have played sport most of my life however I find myself to be lacking in stamina and power in my legs. Would anyone have any decent advice on how to improve this at a reasonably quick rate as the cycle takes place on April 4th . Any other tips and advice would be greatly appreciated and any advice on suppliments to aid in build and recovery would also be a great help. Thanks 🙂 p.s i know cyclists dont tend to be very well built up to but it is necessary for me to do so due to other sporting commitments .

Ride your bike a lot as in five or six days per week between now and your event. Make some of those rides longer when you can, ride a bit quicker on days when you feel good but focus on extended efforts of 20+ minutes or more at that quicker pace and not short gut busting sprints.
In a nutshell, that's it. Ride frequently, challenge yourself to stretch distance or cover the distance quicker some days and just ride on other days including very easy rides just to keep your legs loosened up on days when you're a bit tired. Make it part of your lifestyle and your bike fitness will improve.

how fast is the pace at this ride?
as dave said the most important thing is hours in the saddle, especially if the pace is moderate (then you can skip intervals and such stuff).
this is not only important because of stamina but also to toughen your ass. and I'm not kidding here! 🙂the first days back on my bike my butt really hurt even if I just did 10 miles. after a few weeks this goes away but I you decide to spend long races in the saddle without preparation you will experience some pain.

What kind of time do you have to ride?
What is weather like this time of year?

im guessing rainy and cold winters down in Ireland, it would be a good idea to buy an indoor trainer or use spinning bikes on the gym
