Use a balaclava as a woolly neck warmer. Duh! Obvious really.
Cold weather doesn't agree with me so I sometimes carry a balaclava as insurance for really chilly nights back from the pub. But when that isn't called for a scarf stops the bitter blast freezing my neck. Apart from the Isadora Duncan aspect, it is one more thing to juggle with when you're warmed up. A balaclava with 'the hood down' looks after itself.

Bought meself a helly hansen one - folds up to microscopic size and goes in the pocket when not required. Also useful in "normal balaclava mode" if really cold (looks a bit paramilitary).
I got this as I thought it would fit under a helmet in cold weather (I intend to buy a helmet at some stage - have never worn one) and it will also be good as an emergency item in my bum bag when fell running.
