There has been a lot of talk this week by ASD HA Winkenwerder about how the
National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine (IOM) said that anthrax
vaccine is 100% effective and just as safe as any other vaccine. The IOM
report came out in March 2002, and the Defense Department did enormous PR
about this wonderful report, which it used to justify restarting the AVIP.
The URL above is my 3/2002 detailed critique of the so-called science in
this report. Like so many other reports commissioned by the Defense
Department, the IOM's conclusions are pure spin. If you are curious how
such an esteemed institution could go so far wrong on anthrax vaccine,
