  1. This one is suited to those who have non-running friends (spouses,
    whatever) they'd like to be out with.

    Find yourself some scenic loop. Send friend walking in one direction
    while you run off in the other direction. When you meet up, do your
    walk recovery in the same direction as friend. Repeat for duration
    of workout. I tried this recently, and it worked pretty well. 1-2 minutes
    recovery (up to 5, depending on size of the loop and nature of interval)
    as a chance to chat with friend, so they're not alone, and no loss
    to a workout. I did about 10:2 run/walk last time.
