Yesterday, I read 'The Speckled Monster: A Historical Tale of Battling Smallpox' by Jennifer Carrell. It chronicle the heroic struggles against killer plagues of "the small pox" in London and Boston in the eighteenth century by two survivors of the disease. I especially recommend it to those who like to propose "what would you do if..." scenarios, but oppose vaccination of their own children. The book reads like a well-crafted novel, not a dry medical history. Give it a try.
