  1. Well, since I started working, I have started getting heavier.. I hate the boredom of working out but thought about getting an elliptical trainer to burn some calories. Lookaed around and was looking at $800

Than I had a great idea (or so I thought). Why not get a bike and enjoy the outdoors… And then put the bike on a trainer for the winter.. (good idea..?)

Anyway, I strolled down to the local dealer and did some test rides.. He cot me on a Cannondale F300 $530 And I thought it was pretty nice.. He asked if he could ring it up but I said I better think about it first (and get a second opinion). I asked a buddy and he recommended a $1500 specialized, but that is way out of the question.

To get to the point, I am wondering what will be the best bang for my buck while staying in the $500-$550 range?

I am 5.5ft 160LBS 28yrs and will riding around town some, but more on trail in lake champlain/adirondaks area. Not looking to kill myself w/ 7ft dros or big air… so I just need enough for moderate offroading…

    What do ya think..?
    an eli

  2. Go with the $500 bike and buy a trainer for Winter. You'll be able to tackle most trails with a bike in this price range without compromising quality and can upgrade if you "really" get into it.

If your buddy rides frequenlty (assuming he/she rides or they wouldn't have suggested a $1500 bike) and you think he will ask you to go along quite often...chances are you WILL get into it. In this case, go for a better bike. $1000 tops for your first one. Then move up. Personally, I think you'll ride quite a bit. I have not ridden in your area but have driven through and I hear some of the trails are great in the upstate NY and VT area.

    Have fun and good luck

  3. Yeah... I wasn't planning on listening to my buddy.. I want back and road 2 bikes and think I have it narrowed down to :

    2003 'Dale F300 $527
    2004 GF Marlin $470

They each feel different but both feel good. But I dont have the eperience to know which will suit me better..

    Any opinions on these two..
