I had planned on and was ready to start an 18 week training program this week but instead I sprained my ankle on Saturday. The doctor said it was a moderate sprain and I was on crutches all day yesterday. I am now wearing an air cast and can put weight on it and walk short distances. Have any of you all had this injury during training? if so, how long before you could run again?
I had a slight sprain & was not allowed to run for 5-6 weeks. I wasn't on crutches or ankle-wrapped or anything else. I was allowed -- actually encouraged -- to walk daily rather than just completely rest the ankle -- just not to do anything beyond comfort. I did wear hiking style boots for a while just as a bit of extra support. I walked at least a couple of miles per day right from the start (including walking to get to the ortho's office!).
Are you going to have any p.t. or directed rehab exercises? I found that they helped not only in the actual healing but it made it go faster & I ended up with a stronger ankle in the process. bj

thanks
I've recovered from a few sprains (probably not that severe) that didn't require medical attention. The thing I noticed was how weak the joint was for a good few months after. The ankle would twist on the smallest pebble.
PT sounds like a good idea for fullest and quickest recovery. It has helped me heal other injuries I've had.
