  1. Location of pain: Front/forward of the ankle right where the padding
of the end of the tongue of your shoe covers and just slightly above
where the knot of your tied lace generally sits.

Feels as if it's that joint where the tibia & talus meet and in looking
at anatomy pictures....might be the "Anterior talofibular ligament".
Don't ask me how it happend. With a 9 miler last night...I noticed the
pain. This morning got up and did 4 milers...instantly the pain was
there. No swelling or discoloration. Post run just some soreness.

It's almost as if you have a stress fracture or something suddenly
arise unannounced. i stretch my ankle in all directions pretty well
before a run too. I seem to have this injury once every two years to
    some degree or another.

Funny thing is I can generally "run through this"....at about 90%.
But springing off the balls of my feet sure ain't fun. I don't know if
I am causing more damage on this or what. I've got a 15K race in 4
days too. I'm thinking of keeping my runs to 4 miles for the next 3
days and doing this 15K on Sunday.

What am I dealing with?...stress fracture of some kind?...ligament,
    tendon damage?

    Tips/clues appreciated!

If you have been able to run through it previously, then I'd put my money on
it being a soft tissue injury. Also, if it hurts at the start of the run then
fades, that's a sign of a soft tissue injury.

How fast do you do your training runs these days ? If you're still blasting
through them at close to your half marathon pace, that's too fast -- slow them
    down.

    Cheers,
