You know what I don't get? I don't get where Bjarne Riis gets off saying
Lance and Discovery were just lucky today. I also don't see where all the
media keeps saying that, were it not for DZ's crash, CSC would have won
today. Well, they DIDN'T win today. And what's more, according to Paul
Sherwin, they had lost enough time before they reached the 2km to go banner
that they would have had to ride the twisty, hilly (relatively) final kms at
60 kms/hr -- a near impossibility.
You know what else I don't get? All these people show up here and talk
about how boring the tour is now that Lance is dominating yet again. Well,
it's a three week race and his lead isn't all that great. But more
important, whose fault is it that Lance is dominating yet again? Is it
Lance's fault? Read what Eddie Merckx had to say about Ullrich the other
day. In essence, he said Ullrich has all the potential to beat Lance, but
he doesn't have the heart or the hunger. Nobody does. That's not Lance's
fault, it's everyone else's.
And what about the thread that talks about how Lance isn't human ... like
Indurain. HA! That's really laughable. If anyone was robotic, it was
Indurain. Yep ... Lance weighs every bite of chicken and pasta and he
steeps himself in the latest technology ... and if he doesn't like it, he
chucks it and rides what he likes. (Unfortunately, he did that with his
wife, too.) And the way I see it, battling cancer and surviving makes him
about as human as human can be.
And what's with all the ranting about Sheryl Crow. I enjoyed the segment
during the opening prologue/TT where she was in the commentary booth. She
was WAY better than Al Trouthead and knows way more about cycling than he
does. And she's WAY better to look at, too (though the resemblance thing
with mom and Kristin is creepy).
I'm glad I don't have to pump up my own self esteem by belittling the
accomplishments of others. It's so childish.
