Well. Despite it all, I survived. Good timing on my behalf really, a
week in Cornwall just as it gets hit by the worst storm since the 1930s.
I did manage to get some cycling in and it is definately a good place to
ride (As long as you have some low gears!).
Highlights
Watching the storm (Photos and video can be found at
www.hoovesofdestiny.co.uk/cornwall.html). Shortly after the photos were
taken, we turned to go home. I heard a loud boom from behind and turned
to see a wall of water that had completely obliterated the view out to
sea. I started running. We ended up soaked up our backs when it hit.
Residents of one of the seafront hotels reported watching waves crashing
down the back of the hotel. Amazingly, no-one was hurt, despite three
morons attempting to go surfing (The surf was described as "messy"😉.
Visiting ICE. I couldn't really go all the way to Cornwall and not stop
by to take a look at some three-wheelers. Neil and Ben were in residence
and were glad to chuck me out on some trikes to get a feel for them. I
have now ridden (In addition to the Monster), the XL, XXL, and Micro. I
also got to take the Micro for a decent (Hour-ish) ride around the area.
I've started saving!
One thing which hadn't occurred to me before was discovered on the long
ride. I was climbing up a hill and reached under the seat for my water
bottle. As I was drinking I realised that my remaining hand on the
steering wasn't doing anything, so I took it off. There is something
indescribably wonderful about spinning up a hill with both arms folded
across your chest! ;-)
I got to take a look around their workshop (It's very small!) and see a
few Trices in the process of being built, including an X2 (Which really
does dominate the room!).
Finally, we talked budget models. In addition to the quite well-recieved
ICE Q & T, they are protyping a new one. With a narrower track and a
hardshell seat (Non CF), they reckon it'll be equivalent to the XXL, but
with the drum brakes and lower-spec componentry of the other ICE models
and hopefully in the same price bracket.
All in all, quite eventful. I'll be returning (hopefully) in the Spring
when the weather is a little better and I'll try and get some more
distance in.
