  1. For sheer beauty, my bike ride to work today was about as good as it gets.
There was about an inch of snow during the night, and with no wind to speak
of, the snow coated all the trees and bushes, not just the trunks but the
smallest twigs as well. Moreover you could enjoy it by bicycle because the
roads were mainly wet, not snow covered. And the temperature was a
comfortable 30F, which is about as comfortable as it gets if you want to
enjoy snow.. Anyway, every tree and bush looked even better than the
artificially frosted specimens you sometimes see at Christmas time. And on
the bike path the last 5 miles into downtown Milwaukee, where there are
trees and bushes on both sides of the path coming up almost to the path, the
effect was especially moving - like riding into the entrance to a magical
    kingdom.

But the fairy godmother soon put an end to the "spell". I looked out my
window around 9:00 am and the trees were bare, and by 11:00, all the snow
was melted and all that remained was the memory. The afternoon commute was
back to business as usual: everything bare except the evergreens, and only
the faintest hint of green in the grass; a typical Milwaukee March day. But
there remains the memory of those couple grand hours!

Gotta wonder why anyone would get to work any other way.

I live over thirty miles from work. Otherwise I'd be out there too.

I like how the world goes quiet during such blessed times,
like one is finally given half a fightin' chance to think
    about stuff.

Dry streets @ freezing temps are nice. Often it's the very
wind that we cuss-out, that keeps the pavement dry.

    cheers,
    Tom

  5. Nice post!

I get the same kind of "wonder" feeling in fall when the leaves are
gold and falling to the ground and the sun hits a tree from behind and
    it just glimmers in beauty.
