I visited Amsterdam just two weeks ago and was very impressed with the cycling culture there. The streets are lined with bicycles, and everyones seems to have one. It seemed to be the most convenient method of transportation there as the land is very flat. Most people ride fixed gear bicycles, nothing fancy. I suggest you visit if you have the opportunity, it is an experience unlike anywhere else!

Good luck with the book.
Cheers, Kathryn
Indeed, in Amsterdam and Holland in general the bicycle is regarded as a mode of transport.
@Rajura : as Kathryn suggested a visit to Amsterdam will make that cycling culture more tangible. There is the famous story that as Germany began to retreat from Holland during World War 2 that many of them commandeered the Dutch bikes in order to cycle home to Germany. You could include that anecdote in your book
I am very keen to know and include that German-Holland cycle story of world war. Kindly send me the details if possible. or suggest any links.
I have been in Netherlands ( in Hilversum- a city in North Holland District) for six months to attend some training and work with Radio Netherlands. I used rented bikes there. That six months is my experience for writing the book. The book has already started publishing by chapter wise in a monthly magazine and 5 chapters have been published.
Thank you very much for your encouraging response.
I have been in Netherlands for six months last year (In Hilversum, a City in North Holland District) to attend some training and work with Radio Netherlands.
I used rented bikes there and felt very comfort in that bicycle culture. That is why i wrote an article in a magazine about it. The readers response was very high and responding special request from the publishers I decided to write the book.
Though it was not planned during my visit, I am lacking apt pictures and information. But visiting again Amsterdam is not possible due to financial constraints.
