  1. Amish Sourdough Starter

    1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water 3 cup sugar 3 cup flour 3 cup milk

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Mix together 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour and 1 cup milk. Add yeast
mixture and stir. Do not use a metal spoon. Stir with wooden spoon or plastic.

Day 1, do nothing. You have just made the starter. Day 2, 3 and 4, stir once each day. Day 5, add 1
cup each sugar, flour and milk. Stir. Day 6, 7, 8 and 9, stir once each day. Day 10, add last cup
    sugar, flour and milk. Stir.

You should now have about 5 cups of starter. You may give away 1 cup in plastic containers to
friends. Be sure to keep one cup of starter to continue feeding for yourself. Always give feeding
    schedule with starter when sharing.
