alternative to taking my car

As a m/cyclist myself I found the best way was to get near to a railway or bigger coach station,
they usually have lockers to rent.

Bangor may be starter?

I can't think of anywhere near the hills with lockers. When I lived in Bangor I used to motorbike to
the hills regularly and locked my helmet to the front wheel with a chain. You might want to put it
in a heavy plastic back first to keep the damp out.
