  1. I am looking to see if there are any other allergy sufferers out there. I have been struggling with allergies for a while and have had some ups and downs with them. I have tried all the allergras, zyrtec, and more recently nasal sprays but I still have problems that lead to sinus infections. The allergist I am seeing right now has highly reccomended allergy shots. I have been racing for about 8 years and am a cat 2 on the road so I know my body pretty well. I am also the proud father of 10 month old twins. I am sure this has added to the sinus problem. Recently, after suffering yet another sinus infection I have decided to be like lance and hang up the competative side of cycling and try to eliminate the stress of training. I think this will be fun and allow me to see another side of the sport since I started racing as soon as I started in the sport. All that being said is there anyone else who has struggled with sinus/allergy issues and tried allergy shots? If so, please share your experiences.

    thanks

  3. I had allergy shots for about 10 years. Over that period of time my allergies lessened to the point that I felt the shots were no longer necessary. I also found my riding helped alleviate my symptoms both during and after the ride, probably due to the increase in adrenaline. I'll never be a cat 2, and am certainly no doctor, but I doubt that stopping your riding would help much with your allergies.

  4. It always hits me around the 1st of August every year. Starts out with some sneezing and progresses from there with a sinus infection and now some respiritory problems. I've been hitting the albuterol inhaler several times a day. Add to that I feel exhausted and just want to sleep all day and have no energy.

Come October it'll be too cold outside for me to ride because I'll have asthma problems due to the cool weather and low humidity. It sticks with me until Spring then it all seems to clear up and I can breath again. 😠

The past couple of years my doctor has prescribed several different meds but it's always the same. I just need to live on a tropical island paradise instead of sucky old Indiana.

  5. I have been on allergy shots for the past 12 years. Previous to that, I spent about two years with sinus infections in the doctor's office every 2 - 3 weeks getting injections and antibiotics. After visiting an ENT Specialist, I was tested for allergies. I have been injecting myself once a week. This has brought me to a "normal" level. I do have to visit the ENT about twice a year (Spring, Fall), but the infections are not as severe. I also spray daily with Flonase and take Allegra 2 - 3 times a week. When I get a sinus drip, which I know will lead to an infection, I take a "drying agent" called HISTA-VENT DA which resolves that problem. I do spray with Flonase before cycling or yard work which helps out.

One other note to pass on. I used to shower with an anti-bacterial soap (Dial). I switched to a non-bacterial soap (Cashmere Bouquet) made by Colgate-Palmolive that has made a big improvement in my allergy problems.

    Thanks
