It can't often be justified, but when it can it can be so funny.
Riding home this evening, I saw 3 cyclists coming towards me. Two were
people I see most evenings, all year round, but the chap in front of
them was a stranger to me. I was on the left hand side of the
cyclepath, as usual, they were on their left hand side, so no problem.
Then the stranger at the front swerved to the right and started heading
directly for me, while looking to his left. I could have slammed the
brakes on, but that wouldn't have prevented a collision. An audible
warning was required, and PDQ. The audible warning that I can implement
most quickly is the Air Zound, so he had a good long blast.
The look on his face as he suddenly realised he wasn't the only person
on the path was priceless. His feet came off the pedals, he wobbled a
bit, but then he carried on and a collision was avoided. And the two
regulars behind him had a good laugh at his expense.
