  1. Hi everyone!

I am fairly new to cycling and need some advice on bike trainers.

I have a Trek 7.6FX and use it mainly for fitness riding. A goal of mine is to get to the century mark one of these days😄

Since I live in Las Vegas where, as most of you know, it gets HOT! and believe it or not, during the winter months it gets pretty cold for the desert (about 35 degrees or so).

During this time of year (summer) it is impossible for me to ride during the day so I must go out at night which is pretty scary. It's risky here because there are potentially more drunk drivers here due to the 24 hour lifestyle. Keep in mind that I am 15-20 minutes from the Strip in a regular type small city like alot of you others.

Also, since there is constant construction around here, the roads are very dangerous. Potholes, rocks of various sizes, etc...

Because of all that, I am considering purchasing a bike trainer. Possibly a Cycleops Mag (cycleops.comp 115 mag.aspx).
or an even cheaper one since I am just a novice rider.

I would appreciate some suggestions about some of your experiences with bike trainers as well as recommendations for particular brands.

If i get one I will be looking really soon.

All suggestions and help are appreciated

    Thanks in advance!!

  2. You may want to try doing a search, you will find ample information/threads on 'which trainer'. Having said that, you may want to go with a fluid trainer for a more road-like feel, but you have to balance that against your budget (the mag trainers will definitely cost less).

You may also want to check out tacx and elite, both of which also make quality turbo trainers...

  3. I have tried several different types. None has ever come close to the one I use now, and hope to use forever. The Kurt Kinetic fluid trainers cost more but they're the last one you'll ever need to buy. They're built like tanks and they ride smooth and quiet.

If you're looking for my recommendation, go Kurt Kinetic.

  4. Rollers, dude. Fun to ride--when you don't fall off and injure yourself--and they develop a smooth, supple pedalling action like nothing else.
