  1. Hello

I am trying to cut my ironman bike split from 6h15 to under 6h (around 5h45 would be nice). I have been following the long slow approach to training for 2 years with no results and after reading the various posts on FTP and SST training I think it does make sense. The problem is that with a family and job i structure my training in such a way that i normally do 4/5 sessions of bike a week, followed by a week where i run only, and a week where i mix run and bike .(the last week is recovery).
I was wondering if you can actually build fitness this way. Is it a good idea to have a week with no biking and will it affect the fitness i am trying to build during the previous week.
Living in a cold climate, i was also thinking about doing lots of quality work and then drop the intensity for a month in april/may to concentrate on volume. Does it seem a good strategy to you?
Sorry for the very basic questions but I would appreciate any suggestions.

    thank you.
