Medical schools and universities may wish to know that a NEW colour picture of Dr. Thomas
Addison exists.
You can try "Addison himself" in GOOGLE, or go directly to
wehner.orghimself.jpgOpen ↗ .
When shown full-screen, it seems at first glance like a regular colour photo.
Look again - something is not quite right. Yes - it is FAKE. It is NOT Thomas Addison. It was
IMPOSSIBLE to take a colour photograph in 1852.
This is the "admirable bust by Towne" (Sir Samuel Wilks, wehner.orgcgiOpen ↗
bin/mark.pl/addison/cv/index.htm?admirable+bust+Towne ) - COLOURED IN.
So when printed in colour on glossy paper, it would make a very good exhibit for students to admire.
There are only TWO other portraits that I know of. One is in Guy's Medical School - a painting of
him when he was very young. I used this to discover the colour of his eyes and hair. The other is a
monochrome photograph taken shortly before his death in 1860.
