  1. Hi all,

I have torn my ACL 2 years ago. I did not have much money that time,
and I learned this only last week after my MRI. After I had the injury
it took me about 2 months to recover, I started running slowly, biking.
However I always felt weak on that leg. I did not know what the cause
was. I did some PT, but it was a joke, too easy some massages, etc.
Last month I was playing soccer, and after I jumped on fall on left
feet (torn ACL feet), I heard some bone crack noises. Went to the
doctor, and apparently my bones crashed each other, since ACL was not
there. The doctor wants to do surgery ACL reconstruction. I guess I
need it. I don't want to hurt anything else on my knee.

My question is what are the best exercises to strengthen my knee before
the surgery? I might have the surgery in couple of months. I am a
pretty strong person, my knees have almost all ROM. I just feel a
little weak on that knee now.

The doctor says holding my leg 90 while sitting, and toes towards
upwards is a good exercise. That exercise does not seem to work much, I
feel my calves are hurting more than any other muscle. What are the
muscles which hold the ACL straight on the leg? I believe I need to
    concentrate on them.

Also how long does it take to recover after the injury? The doctor says
one week on crutches, and I should be able to walk afterwards. Will I
be able to use my leg a little on that week, like commuting from home
to work. I need to commute, and left leg is important for the clutch 🙂

    Thanks

I would be surprised if you did not also have meniscus or articular
cartiledge damage as well---make sure you find out if you do.

Honestly, my best advice to you is to avoid further injuring your knee.
If you are going to lift, DO NOT do leg extensions, do leg presses of
some sort slowly and carefully...but seriously, the degree of trauma
your leg will undergo as a result an ACL reconstruction---at least if
it is an alograft---will pretty much obliterate any advantage you gain
now by lifting. It's a bit like asking "How should I best prepare my
home for a nuclear attack? I want to get it ready now so I can rebuild
    it more quickly afterwords."

It takes a long, long, long time.
