Hello,
I'm looking for some ideas for my brother, who suffered a partially torn Achilles while racing this past weekend. I believe the causes were insufficient stretching and/or a change in shoes and cleat position at the wrong time, i.e. during hard training and racing.
Anyways, we're desperately looking for ways he can retain some semblance of aerobic fitness while wearing this big, bulky boot (6-8 weeks) on his leg. Doc says swimming is out, but maybe he can do some high-rep circuit training with weights? Also, our gym has a hand cycle as well. A lot of time was invested to build up a big aerobic base this year (with results to validate that), and there must be a way to minimize its loss. Also, he's very lean and vascular right now and wants to avoid gaining fat, if possible.. Help!!!
My bro has been having a superb season, winning races and just now upgrading to my race category. This injury is very discouraging for him, and me too, since our plan was to race together -- and then his happened. 🙁
Thanks so much for any suggestions!
-Ron
PS- We realize a full tear is much worse, so he's going to be patient and very careful on that tendon in the meantime.
