My guess: when Ullrich was suffering that first day in the mountains,
Vino would've been told to go ahead and not wait, just as Kloden was.
Ullrich would still be 8 minutes down, Azevedo and Landis would've
still ridden a pace everyday that no one could attack (even Vino) and
there'd be a 3-way t-mobile battle to oust Basso from 2nd.
