When I first started biking I didn't know NOT to wear underwear and it was very uncomfortable (briefs). Ever since, I never wear underwear, but I have a different problem - I never know whether to "dress" to the right, left, down ... so I leave it up. I don't have much choice being a man of large package. This in fact is my biggest problem when riding since (as Kramer said), "I'm flipping and flopping". I find this to be helped greatly by Santini TwistGel Bib shorts - they just seem snug in the right places.

Ahhh, excellent (if gruesome and indelicate) subject. Cycling adds a whole new spin to the "dress R/L" issue -- the challenege of, as I call it, saddle dress. Walking down the block in a pair of fitted trousers, my body will forgive me if I make the wrong call; no such luck if you're straddling a 1 1/2" wide beam of plastic and pleather.🙁

Precisely my conundrum. Esp with the "boys" - at one point I was in tears when I mounted quickly. Ruined my whole ride, possibly day.
I think there's a market ripe for a "package halter", sorta like The Bro, but for down south. Ballzeir?

Fortunately, it's already been done. Ever hear of a "jock strap"?

Do you guys wear underwear with bike shorts, or do you "free ball" as I like to say?I like to wear them with nothing under but on Saturday nights I do put on womens panties on top and head out dancing.
-
Gotta go "Free Willie" is there any other way?
-
Try an ankle sock on the third leg (properly sized to fit snug). It reduces flopping and chafing on the delicates.
-
What's an ankle sock? Do they make them in Magnum sizes?
Also, guys... do you shave the ballzarea?
-
Ideally..........you should keep that area down under shaved (waxed maybe?) and apply moleskin before every ride.

Yep, "Bag Balm" is for real.
As for me, it's free ballin' all the way. I prefer margerine myself, lighter in calories.
Ride On!

I always wear full size briefs under my cycling shorts and never had aproblem. Just don't worry about visible underwear.

Well, it's the extra -- err -- material that makes this category of gear particularly crucial. If board shorts and a pair of cotton undies works for you, that's fantastic, but most men rely on the merciful instincts of the finest engineers and PhDs in the sportswear industry...I am new to this forum. Just joined today. This subject interests me because I just bought me a new pair of biking undies with a nice soft pad to cushion my soft tissues. Being female, I thought I would also wear my thongs under these to protect the pad from my personal moisture. Is this perhaps a bad idea? I will be heading into Holland on a 400+ kilometer trip and I am hoping to avoid chaffing. Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome.

When I first started cycling I did wear underwear, but developed some chafing. I went to a dermatologist and he said NEVER wear undies under cycling shorts. He cycles as well.
