Well I had to go to see my doctor today so as I was feeling ok, I decided to bike up there ( despite it tippling gently). Half an hour at the Medical centre and as I set off back home ( only about 1/2 a mile) I thought "b*gger it" ! So then I really enjoyed my first bike ride in over 5 weeks, in constant rain and with a fair amount of grit / dirt on the roads from the de-icing efforts of last week. I only did about 10 miles but it was great.! Bl**dy marvellous!

Well done. And tomorrow?
Oh I shall restart my training now-- gently at first but I feel happy that I can get a few miles under my belt. I have a few aches and pains tonight but nothing compared with even last week! I shall ride without the BOB Yak trailer this week but then the loads start going on and hopefully before the middle of April I should be training with an apparent full load. -- it never is a full load until the day I leave on my holiday when I always seem to finish up cramming last minute things into my bar bag -- but I am much better now at doing a sensible throw away session the day before I pack. I generally put all the things that I intend to take on my bed and then put half of them away again! Certainly experience has shown that if I take something with me that never gets used ( or hardly ever) then it never goes again. My main creature comforts are a good 3 season two man tent, a good sleeping bag and a self inflating mattress. Everything else is minimalised and I reckon that I am one of the best "one pot" cooks in Europe! Although this year I am looking around for a good, light, camping stool of not more than 500 gms. I have managed so far without one but usually by about the end of week 1 of a tour I would cheerfully murder for a seat above ground level!
