  1. "... not!
    East River, or Queens."
    ~ Twittering

    "The Queens-Midtown Tunnel
is designed to take its place in the New York of tomorrow. To get a
clear picture of this miracle of engineering skill it is perhaps
necessary to compare it with its older sister to the west, the Holland
Tunnel connecting Manhattan with New Jersey. This early tunnel taught
engineers many lessons that were put to good use in the new
construction. It took seven years to complete the Holland Tunnel, and
only four years to complete the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. Time has been
saved, and money has been saved. New York can be proud of her new
tunnel, and proud, too, of the ingenuity, skill and vision that made it
    possible."
    ~ Queens-Midtown Tunnel dedication program
    1940)

"INSPIRED BY THE HOLLAND TUNNEL ~
Soon after the Holland Tunnel, the first vehicular tunnel designed to
handle modern automotive traffic, opened in 1927, support grew for the
construction of a vehicular tunnel to relieve congestion on the East
River bridges. In 1929, the New York City Board of Estimate
appropriated $2.0 million to the Board of Transportation for the design
and construction of an East River vehicular tunnel. The Army Corps of
Engineers approved the tunnel plan at the end of 1930, but the Great
Depression precluded any further spending by the city."

"Clyde's heart was no longer in it
    But with the methodical determination
That had put ten thousand papers
    To bed
He went into the warm cellar (the old furnace chewing,
Chewing fuel) and fetched the aluminum
    Stepladder."

    "Hi JS
A Pulsar is not a black hole.
Nor do pulsar spin at the same rate.
What is the fastest spinning Pulsar?
    (who really knows). Black
Holes are much more dynamic than their Pulsar cousins.

    The force to create BHoles
Is one of the greatest energies our universe can muster.
One theory has the universe created from space 'foam.'

Maybe my nonsense comes out of my Bud foam.
    (who knows)."
    ~ Bert

"Quantum foam? I've seen that, Bert!
I call that Either / Or ~ When stuff
    Is there one minute,
Not another. Or did it slip into the 6th dimension?
    Like my missing LL
Down Bean ski jacket? And my missing 'The Address Book'?"
    ~ Twittering

    "Still I thank you JS
For taking the time to read my posts,
And that means you can call them the way your
    Mind's eye sees them.

Don't particularly like calling my thinking nonsense,
    But its been called worse.
    (so what)
    Reality is I can't think
    To please myself anymore.
PS Bad enough I'm having big arguments with Treb
    (go figure)."
    ~ Bert

    "Who's Treb? Nonsense, a compliment!
And why you no please yourself anymore, your thoughts?"
    ~ Twittering
