I thought that the only reason my letter got published was that the
editor viewed it as flame bait.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this letter today:

On yer bike
A lot of people have been saying that if you live as far out as 15
kilometres from the CBD and ride a bicycle to work, it will be quicker
than driving your car during peak hours.
Well, guess what? It is true and since I have started cycling to work in
Exhibition Street each day, I arrive fresh, aware, energised and, above
all, aerobically fitter.
The CBD motorist is a target for extinction and for the better. The
latest tax grab on parking spaces in the city should be your final
wake-up call. You won't need any more warnings.
First it started with flexible and ever-changing speed zones, paying to
use roads through tolls and higher fuel prices. I won't even go on about
the stress of driving in peak hour. Go on. Make a start. Some of my
friends are.
