Parked on the road between Great and Little Mell Fells at midday, and had a very enjoyable stroll over Little Mell Fell - no one about, as seems usual on my Sunday walks in fine weather in one of the most popular parts of the country (-: Nice views in all directions. Down to the road at the hause - there's a gate on the other side, wrapped in barbed wire and bearing a Private sign. But the path heads almost directly by a very nice route to Gowbarrow Fell, and shouts out, 'Walk me! Walk me!', so I did. There are good views of Blencathra all the way along. Gowbarrow is a nice little summit. Thence almost in a beeline over walls and fences to the road at the marvellously named Ulcat Row, and round by road to Great Mell Fell. I skirted right around to the NE of the summit before wandering up through the trees as the sun was going down behind the fells to the SW - these are lovely 'open' woods (almost entirely deciduous) and are earmarked for a picnic next summer. Cracking views of High Street and round to Fairfield etc. Woodpeckers and jays in the woods; grouse at the top. Pics to follow.
A nice site Paul and you look rightfully very chuffed finishing the Marathon. Well done.
