  1. Hello all. I haven't ridden in about 10 years, and even then, it was a bike from a big box store. I went to my local bike shop yesterday, and my eyes were opened to a whole new realm of cycling. I was told that a hybrid would be the best thing for me, a little bit of bike trail riding, and just tooling around town for excercise (the main reason I want a bike again). Was hoping I might get some pointers from all of you here. I got on a 22.5 inch Trek hybrid yesterday, and couldn't even stand over it, so I've come to the conclusion that a 20" would be better. Everything else is fair game. I'm not into off-roading, but up here in the Portland Metro area, there's lots of bike-lanes and trails to be ridden.

    Thanks!

  2. it all depends on the kind of riding you are planning on doing. If you are looking for a comfortable riding machine for tooling around town and maybe some "light" mountain biking. By this I mean easy trails or gravel roads. If you are looking for doing more raod miles and wanting to go faster then a road bike is the answer. If you are looking to spend time getting dirty and abusing yourself and your bike then mountain bike is the way to go. I started wit a hybrid. After onwe season I got hooked on both kinds of riding and the hybrid got frustrating. I now have one of each. But a hybrid is a good way to start..and usually the least expensive entrance into this great sport.

Have fun, make friends, and get fit while you're at it.
