Hi, so a friend recently got me into MTB and she helped me pick out a new bike yesterday and I'd like to buy her a gift to say thanks. I'm thinking a good maintenance and care book would be good.
She's really into all types of cycling, especially MTB but she does cycle tours overseas sometimes too.
She told me she can do quick roadside emergency repair but doesn't really know a whole lot about regular day-to-day maintenance beyond just keeping the bike clean. So I thought I would get her book on the topic.
I've been researching all afternoon but I've just gotten completely swallowed up by it all, so does anyone know of a good book to help with regular care and maintenance with some more advanced stuff too? (since she does know a bit about bikes).
I think I've narrowed it down to:
1) Complete Bike Maintenance New and Expanded Edition For Road, Mountain, and Commuter Bicycles by Fred Milson 2) The Complete Do it Yourself Mountain Bike Maintenance Book by Mel Allwood 3) Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance by Lennard Zinn All 3 have their pros and cons: Book 1): It's for all types of bikes, which would be good for her, but, I don't know how specific things get, for example, she has Hydraulic Disc Brakes and it would be good if she could learn how to perform maintenance on them. Book 2): Just seems like a good book but again, I don't know about the advanced stuff. Book 3): This seems to be very popular but some reviews say it's lacking in information. When reviewers say that the books don't get too into advanced mechanics, etc. I don't know if it's just that those people have home workshops and expect to learn all the advanced stuff a professional bike technician would know, or if the books are just aimed too much at beginners and don't go beyond the absolute basics. Can someone help me out?
