Uhh...hard to figure this out without seeing the bike. At the risk of suggesting the obvious, is it possible that the chain is jammed between the front derailleur cage and one of the chainrings? Have you tried *gently* fiddling with the shifters?

(I take it you can't pedal backwards, either. If you can, my first question is moot.)

Barring the obvious of the chain being off the sprockets and jammed somewhere or something blocking the wheel from turning, it could be that the bottom bracket seized up. I bet a quick look by a friend with some bicycle repair experience would help, or you could punt and take it to a shop.
