“Comfort Bikes” is the term that I've heard is being increasingly used in the industry to refer to recumbents. Can anyone else confirm this?
If so, the term “Comfort Bike” sounds so wimpy to me. Even though “comfort” may be the main reason many of us choose a ‘bent over an upright, I somehow doubt that the term “comfort bike” is going to help ‘bents catch fire in terms of sales.
I am often trying to sum up for people what I love about my ‘bent. I often use the word comfort. But somehow that feels like I’m describing a bed. And the word “recumbent” alone does not really say much; I still have to go into an explanation anyway.
It’s really about smart body science. Anyone have a better word or term for our beloved steeds? A bike designed around the human body?

How do you describe your love of ‘bents?
I’m generally hearing comfort bikes referring to genre of upright bikes that sacrifice performance in favor of rider comfort. The bikes somewhat between a cruiser, a road bike, cyclecross bike. They have at least suspension seatposts-sometimes softtail, sometimes both; suspension forks; 1 ½-2 “ tires; and generally swept back handlebars. I’m also hearing some semi-recumbents referred to as comfort bikes. While people refer to recumbents as comfortable bikes, haven’t seen any marketed as comfort bikes.
Ssince the rider is recumbent on a recumbent bike, the descriptive term uniquely fits the recumbent genre. Its better to use the more precise term, especially when it’s an objective descriptive term vs. a subjective term like “comfort”.

Comfort bikes used to be referring to a hybrid bike by some makers.

I really like the term "inline wheelchair"
A local recumbent dealer is called Laid Back Bikes (he also does tours on the 'bents and calls them "Laid Back Tours"😉. I think that term, "laid back bike", is the best I have ever heard.
