Either a) weld new gear hanger on or b) saw off gear hanger and convert
to either hub gears, singlespeed or fixed.

You could very easily braze a small piece of steel [make sure it's
steel...any odd bit of steel will do really] onto the hanger to make
another stop. There's plenty of room to bodge this, and you wouldn't
need oxy/act either - Mapp gas would heat that prefectly ok to the
required temperature. Make sure you get the flux off afterwards...it's
corrosive.

Know anybody who does a bit of brazing?

Elegant solution: get a new dropout brazed in and a respray.

Rough solution: saw off the rest of the hanger and buy a bolt-on hanger,
e.g. this one (£5 for postage though!)

I've got one! carry it as a spare after losing a gear hanger in Italy last year; not elegant though, have bodged for the moment with a pipette tip ;-)
