For this ride, I did carb load using fruit and rice for days beforehand
and also even ate pasta the evening before.

For this ride, I took about 140 ounces (about 7 pounds!) of water, drank
it all and stopped at a store for two 20 ounce Powerade drinks, and I
drank them both for a total of about 180 ounces (1.1 gallons) of water. I
ate one bar (270 cals, 30g carbs) beforehand and two during the ride. I
drank protein/carb/no salt mixtures, and I had about 20 g carbs in a drink
before the ride. The protein mixtures probably had about 10g proteing and
10-15g carbs (maltodextrin). I drank at least 4 of these during the ride.
I know that we're not supposed to like drinking carbs, but I was pretty
darn dead at about the 65 mile mark when I stopped for the two powerades.
I basically chugged both of these and felt much, much better. I was going
to try for over 90 miles, but when I was climbing Col de Hogsback, which
occurs about 1-2 miles from my home, my crank fell off, with my foot
attached! Apparently, it had loosened and just fell off. I put it back
on and finished the ride but decided against riding a few more miles.
I did get passed by someone who blew by me as I was riding at about the 10
mile mark; we were riding a very steep hill. I was toying with seeing how
long I could keep up with him (which wouldn't be long, considering he
weighed probably 50-60 pounds less than I do), but I had 80 more miles to
ride. Today, I can tell that I'm horribly overtrained -- my heart was
racing this morning when I got up. However, I promised someone I'd ride
about 30 miles with them, so I'm off to ride more miles. Then, I ride my
hard and easy rides this week, 100 miles on Sunday, hard and easy rides,
another 100 miles on Sunday, then my riding will dramatically drop.
