  1. Will a Shimano 10 speed chain work with 9 speed chain rings?
Everything will be 10 speed except the crank. Any words of advice?

  2. I believe that the 10spd chain is narrower than a 8/9spd chain.

I'm not sure if the older crank rings are thicker than the new 10spd
crank rings. However, you *will* have trouble with a 8/9spd chain on
the narrow cogs (tight clearance) of the 10 speed cassette.

Maybe someone else can confirm these ideas. You can always stop by
your local bike shop and ask the guys there.

Yes. (Mostly yes, anyway; I've heard of an instance where the burrs
along the edge of a worn aluminum sprocket had to be filed before the
10s chain would run on it smoothly, but that's the only instance I've
heard about in which it didn't work immediately.)

Ride. If you're worried about people hassling you over the 9s emblems
on the sprockets, peel them off or paint them out.

Use the '9sp' rings(or even '8s' rings). When shimano 10s DA was brand
new a few big rings folded, so teams used the 7700 rings w/o problem.

    My current setup is:

    - 8 spd Dura-Ace cranks (7410, the ones that almost looks like the 9spd)
    - 8 spd Dura-Ace 53 chainring
    - 9 spd Ultegra 39 chainring
    - 10 spd Dura-Ace shifters
    - 10 spd Dura-Ace chain
    - 10 spd Ultegra cassette
    - 9 spd Dura-Ace hubs
    - 10 spd Dura-Ace rear der
    - 8 spd Dura-Ace front der (7410)

and it works very, very, very well!
