A brief racap - a couple weeks ago, I started to feel pretty fatigued, and
wasn't really sure why. Maybe it was lack of sleep, or not eating right or
enough, but I was really dragging. Our group run last week was 8 miles on
gravel, with a 500ft elevation gain in the first half of the run. I got
maybe 1/2 mile into it, and just gave up. I had zero energy. I was
starting to think I just wasn't going to keep up with this group schedule.
This week was the same run, but with 1 more mile added on. I was really
dreading it, but showed up and decided to go out with the walking group.
There are 5 different groups based on speed, and I had been in the 10-15
min/mile pace group. I had made the decision to cover the miles, whether I
was walking, jogging, or crawling. But once I got started, I broke into a
slow jog. It felt good! With the grade, my heart rate was up high, and
fast. So I walked quite a bit initially. But I made it to the halfway
point with energy to spare, turned around, and cruised downhill! I did the
9 miles in 1:40. I am very proud!
After runs like this, I am still whooped. I took a nap, ate heartily, went
to bed at 8pm and slept until 7am. I feel good today, no serious aches or
fatigue. I'm looking forward to our next group run of 11 miles now.
