Yes. On rare occasions the chain might sort of skim between the rings, but that won't happen if you
shift down decisively.

Use any chain(8/9/10) on any crank(old, new, 7/8/9/10s)...from my experience.

Have you experienced 9 or 10sp chains hesitating while shifting from large to small chainrings? This
happened to me recently when I changed my Campag
8/9sp crank to a Ritchey double, running Campag 9sp. It's a strange feeling for half a crank
revolution or so, like it's hitting another gear. I suspect what's happing is that the chain is
riding on the small ring on it's side plate, and against the outer ring, before finally dropping
onto the small ring. Not a problem ... just strange.
